Application Deadline: November 3 at 5:00 p.m. ET
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – October 13, 2026 – Rhode Island Commerce is now accepting Innovation Voucher program applications. Innovation Vouchers are grants that fund strategic investments in local businesses to catalyze growth through research and development (R&D). Businesses may apply for up to $75,000 in funding. Applications are being accepted through Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
“The Innovation Voucher program gives every local business the chance to compete and grow,” said Governor Dan McKee. “Investing in the ideas and innovations of our small businesses
today means more opportunities and good-paying jobs for Rhode Islanders tomorrow.” Innovation Vouchers fund R&D conducted in partnership with a local “Knowledge Provider”
such as a college, university, hospital, or research institution, or conducted in-house by a manufacturing business.
“Through this program, Commerce is helping Rhode Island entrepreneurs access the expertise they need to advance their innovations and position themselves for further success,” said Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor. “We welcome applications from businesspeople seeking to boost their R&D and accelerate their growth here in the Ocean State.”
Innovation Voucher applications are evaluated based on possible impact, technological innovation, market demand, and potential for commercialization. Support is prioritized for
targeted industries, including advanced materials, ocean economy, defense, energy and environment, food systems, and life sciences.
Since the program’s inception, 166 projects across 132 companies have received Innovation Vouchers, representing a total investment of just over $9 million.
Applications are due Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
